Introduction Smart Cutting System


The Acticut Smart Cutting System is a world first in active control of vibrations in tool holders. The system consists of an active holder (Smart Cutting Holder) connected to a control unit (Smart Cutting Controller).

By embedding sensors and actuators in the tool holder, the controller can register the movements and counteract them in real time. The system is designed to be as user friendly as possible with only two buttons to operate the unit. The first button is used after installing the tool holder and/or changing the clamping. The second button activates the controller and the tool now stands ready to battle any dynamic movements.

The controller also shows you the amount of energy needed to keep the situation under control. It is this information that tells the operator how much the cutting parameters can be changed enabling the system to still cope with it. This information can also be incorporated into an early warning system to avoid possible failures. Benefits of using this system involve:

• Increased cutting speed, feed and depth (including very small depths).

• Shorter and easier setup time due to a larger window of usable cutting parameters.
