Time Before Acticut®

We are often asked this question. What did industry do before they could have Acticut®? Our metaphor to describe the process i best outlined by: Is it possible to drive safely on icy and snowy roads using summer tires?

It is not impossible to drive a car on icy and snowy roads using summer tires given that one drives slowly and is very skilled. A Formula 1 driver performs better than a beginner that might not even be able to move at all, but even the skilled driver might go off the road or frequently skid.

This metaphor describes today’s metal cutting process. The “speed limit” set by the tool insert manufacturer can often not be accomplished when cutting in tough materials. By using very skilled operators, the cutting companies try to move forward by going slow and being extremely careful. The driver must be fully alert at all times and focus on the mission, “staying on the road.” If not, a crash is evident. This does not imply that it is impossible to drive using summer tires, it just takes extreme skill and slow and careful driving. Sometimes it is possible! Push ACTIVATE to get more performance!

It is frequent that the driver “goes off the road” and then, the work-piece is destroyed and large amounts of money, energy and time have been wasted. At the top, it is not only the inability to retain the speed limit that costs money but the fact that “going off the road” creates huge losses (workpiece destroyed).
